JULY 2009

Saturday, July 4th is Independence Day, a U.S. national holiday celebrated at numerous venues throughout the Big Island.

Fridays & Saturdays throughout July: Obon Dance & Festivals. The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.

A Rainbow of Elegance - Kohala Goldsmiths brings world-class gems to the Big Island

“Nature's Masterpiece”
by Kohala Goldsmiths

Kohala Goldsmiths has assembled a collection of rare gems and custom-made jewelry, including the world’s largest collection of gem-grade black opals, presented in a relaxed intimate atmosphere. Each unique piece is handcrafted in a matchless setting of gold and platinum.

For owner and master goldsmith Marc Gregg, the correct cutting of a gemstone is paramount. Most gems are cut for maximum yield of the rough stone, but Marc focuses on maximum beauty.

Kohala Goldsmiths is the culmination of Marc’s dedication and vision of 34 years. “This is truly my dream store coming true, in paradise,” Marc says with satisfaction.

Kohala Goldsmiths is located on the Kohala Coast at the Shops at Mauna Lani, 68-1330 Mauna Lani Dr., Ste. 400. The gallery is open 9am to 9pm, 7 days a week. Call (808) 877-OPAL
