Kahului: the winning

Wailuku: water (of) destruction

Lahaina: cruel sun (said to be named for droughts)

Kihei: cape, cloak

Makena: abundance

Makawao: forest beginning

Hana: alert

Ha'iku: speak abruptly or sharp break

Pa'ia: noisy

Waihe'e: squid liquid

Kapalua: two borders

Ka'anapali: ka'ana cliff

Olowalu: many hills

Puunene: hill of the geese
