• Kahului: the winning • Wailuku: water (of) destruction • Lahaina: cruel sun (said to be named for droughts) • Kihei: cape, cloak • Makena: abundance • Makawao: forest beginning • Hana: alert • Ha'iku: speak abruptly or sharp break • Pa'ia: noisy • Waihe'e: squid liquid • Kapalua: two borders • Ka'anapali: ka'ana cliff • Olowalu: many hills • Puunene: hill of the geese
