FAST FACTS

Party Time on Maui

Birthdays are big on Maui.

• A huge baby luau is traditional when a child reaches their first birthday.

• Yakadoshi is a big celebration of a 40th or 50th birthday.

• Local folks don't say "I will be 33" with a sigh - rather they say, "I will make 33 this year," with great pride.

• Age is an accomplishment. Isn't that refreshing?

A toast to your health!

There are two toasts you must know if you attend a local wedding on Maui.

• "Bonzai!" is perfect if the couple has any Japanese ancestry.

• "Mobuhay!" is the way to say it at a Filipino reception.
